In partnership with Cailey Chase of Vahana Nature Rehabilitation, we continued our ongoing program to reduce the spread of invasive species such as spotted knapweed and blueweed using a combination of targeted goat grazing and hand pulls. The issue is especially significant near the Centennial Hall Entrance and continues into the trail system for a couple of kilometres.
This year we installed signage on the Powerline Trail to raise awareness about the encroachment, and we placed a compost bin in one of the infested areas for people to assist in hand pulling along the trail. Almost 50 people came out for a weed pulling day in July, and we removed a total of about 20 garbage bags full of weeds from the area.
